Celebrating Our Roots: YCS Derebail Unit Celebrates Konkani Manyata Diwas

Konkani Manyata Diwas was celebrated on 30 August 2026 at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail Organized by the YCS members of Derebail unit and compered by Animator Mr. Gladson Monteiro, the programme began with a lively flash mob by the YCS members.

The celebration beautifully showcased the rich Konkani culture and traditions through different stages of life, including the cradle ceremony, First Holy Communion, meeting of the bride and groom, Roce ceremony, wedding and baby shower. These were presented through a blend of songs, dances and cultural performances. During the Roce ceremony, Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis broke a coconut as a symbolic gesture.

The programme continued with the Parish Priest’s message on preserving and passing on the Konkani language, culture and traditions to the younger generation. It concluded with a vibrant Baila dance, followed by a group photograph and the YCS–YSM clap.

The celebration was a joyful opportunity for the members to express their Konkani heritage, appreciate their traditions and strengthen unity and fellowship.
