20 Children Welcome Jesus into their Hearts: First Holy Communion at Derebail Church
Holy Communion is one of the most sacred sacraments in the Christian faith, where the faithful receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the form of bread and wine. It is a profound moment of spiritual union with Christ and marks an important milestone in the life of every believer, especially for children receiving it for the first time.
The First Holy Communion ceremony was held at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail on 3rd May at 9:00 a.m. The Eucharistic celebration was solemnly presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris and Rev. Fr. Anil, a Capuchin priest.
A total of 20 children received their First Holy Communion, marking a significant and joyful step in their spiritual journey.
In his homily, Fr. Joseph , urged parents to guide their children closer to Jesus. Quoting the words of Christ, “Let the little children come to me,” he encouraged everyone to nurture the faith of the young ones. He also called upon the children to pray for their parents, grandparents, and priests, and reminded them to be sincere and active in their spiritual life, avoiding any form of laziness.
The communicants sang a thanksgiving hymn, expressing their gratitude to God for this blessed occasion. The Youth Choir added solemnity and beauty to the Mass through their melodious singing.
The Parish Priest expressed his heartfelt gratitude and acknowledged everyone who contributed to organizing the service. Special thanks were extended to Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris, Mrs. Dora D’Cunha, Mrs. Pramila Furtado, Mrs. Shaila Noronha, and Mrs. Montei Andrade for their dedicated efforts in teaching catechism and preparing the children for this special day.
As a token of remembrance, the children were presented with a scapular and a certificate commemorating their First Holy Communion. A photo session was arranged thereafter to capture the joyous moments.
The celebration concluded with refreshments served to the communicants and their parents. The entire event was a spiritually enriching and memorable occasion, filled with joy, devotion, and a sense of community.
