Elders’ Day Celebration at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail

The Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, in association with the Family Commission and the Secular Franciscan Order, organized Elders’ Day on 28th September 2025 to honour parishioners aged 75 and above. A total of 92 elders participated, with the overall gathering of 170.

The celebration began with a Eucharistic Mass at 10:15 a.m., where the elders joined in thanksgiving and prayer. This was followed by a cultural programme at 11:15 a.m, graced by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris, Assistant Parish Priest, Parish Pastoral Council Vice President Mrs. Sheela D’Souza, Secretary Mr. Denzil Pinto, Coordinator of 21 Commissions Mr. Anil Patrao, President of the Secular Franciscan Order Mrs. Felcy Pasanna, Convener of the Family Commission Mr. Cyprian D’Souza, and the Resource Person Dr. Priyatham Kamath.

The programme included prayer dance by the Legion of Mary, a warm welcome by Mrs. Mary Vas, and a melodious song dedicated to the elders by members of Parapade Hills Ward. Fun-filled games brought joy and laughter to the gathering, while Dr. Kamath delivered an insightful talk offering health tips and encouraging the elderly to stay active and positive in life. The Parish Priest addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and appreciation, after which Mr. Cyprian D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks.

Rev. Fr. John Pinto, OCD, blessed the meal. The drinks for the elders were served. The celebration continued with lively dance including the Baila, which added great enthusiasm and cheer to the occasion. The programme was compered by Mrs. Pramila Furtado. 
The day concluded with a fellowship meal, bringing together the elders and parishioners in a spirit of joy, gratitude, and togetherness.
