Guiding Young Hearts: Summer Camp for Children and Teenagers of Derebail Parish

The year 2026 has been dedicated as the year of Children by Mangalore Diocese. Derebail Parish, on this note, has been organising a series of programmes for the children of the Parish.

As part of the Summer Camp held for children from Grade 8 to PUC,
meaningful and enriching talk was organized by the MFC (Missionary Families of Christ), focusing on important themes such as “What is My Identity,” Celebrating the Eucharist, and Peer Pressure on 14 April 2026.

The programme began with a warm welcome to the dignitaries on the dais. The esteemed guests included the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis; Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peres; Vice President, Mr. Denzil Fernandes; Secretary, Mrs. Clotilda D’Souza; and Co-ordinator, Mrs. Helen Menezes. Their presence added grace and significance to the event.

The first session, “What is My Identity,” helped students understand their self-worth and identity as individuals created with purpose and dignity. It encouraged them to reflect deeply on their values and uniqueness.

The talk on Celebrating the Eucharist deepened the participants’ understanding of the importance of the Holy Eucharist in their spiritual lives. It emphasized active participation and growing in faith through this sacred celebration.

The session on Peer Pressure was practical and relatable. Students were guided on how to handle negative influences and make wise decisions, staying true to their values despite challenges from peers.

The final talk on Vocation, delivered by Fr. Clanny D’Souza, inspired students to reflect on their future and God’s plan for their lives. It emphasized the importance of listening to God’s call and choosing a path rooted in service, commitment, and purpose.

The programme, attended by around 60 students from Class 8 to PUC, was highly informative and engaging. It left a lasting impact, helping students grow not only in knowledge but also in faith and character.

At its culmination, the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis appreciated and thanked all those who had toiled for the success of the programme. He thanked the members of the MFC, Mrs. Helen Menezes, Mrs Pramila Furtado, Sr. Sunita, Mrs Shaila Noronha and Mrs Monthi for their time and efforts in enabling the day's events. Prizes were then distributed to the winning groups. Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris  led the concluding prayers.

The programme ended with refreshments for all the participants.
