Maundy Thursday 2017 Back

Maundy Thursday, the day of our Lord's Last Supper was commemorated in a devout manner on the 13th of April at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail. Rev.Fr.Austin Peres, Fr.Gratian Alvares, Fr.Walter D'souza and Fr.Alexander Lobo offered the mass. In his Homily, Fr.Austin Peres elaborated on the significance of the day. He also urged the parishioners to pray for all those who have taken on the responsibility of making Jesus known to the world, especially the Priests.

The Holy Week helps one to reminisce the compassion that Jesus had towards others. He washed the feet of his disciples on this day and exhibited the humility that one should have in life. A symbolic representation of this is done every Maundy Thursday, where the Priest washes the feet of 12 members of parish. A total of 6 men and 6 women from various associations and wards participated in this ceremony and took over the place of the disciples.

After the mass, the Veneration of the Blessed Sacrament. Fr.Gratian Alvares conducted a prayer service, in order to help the parishioners to prepare themselves to welcome the Lord from his resurrection.

The Children's Choir added to the solemnity of the service.
