Walking with Christ: Live Way of the Cross and a Reflective Sermon at Derebail Parish

The parishioners of Most Holy Redeemer Church Derebail witnessed a deeply moving reenactment of the Passion of Christ on Palm Sunday, 29th March 2026, at 5 PM. The parishioners gathered at the Holy Family School grounds for the Live Way of the Cross.

The Senior CLC brought to life the final hours of Jesus with a powerful and emotional performance that left many parishioners teary-eyed. The Way of the Cross was led by Mr. Ullas D’Costa, Mrs. Clotilda D’Souza, and Mr. Victor Miranda, whose contemplative narration and prayers enhanced the spiritual experience. The parish choir further added to the solemnity.

For the children of the parish, this was a new experience as they witnessed the suffering and sacrifice of Christ in a vivid and engaging manner. The entire ground was divided into fourteen stations, and the faithful journeyed from one station to another, walking alongside the Lord. The twelfth station, depicting the death of Jesus on the cross, was especially impactful. The effective sound and lighting left a lasting impression on all present.

The reenactment was graced by the presence of the Bishop of the Diocese of Gulbarga, Most Rev. Robert Miranda, along with the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis and Associate Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris.

Following the Way of the Cross, the parishioners proceeded in a prayerful procession to the church for a reflective sermon delivered by Most Rev. Robert Miranda. In his homily, he emphasized that those who determined Jesus’ fate were not ignorant, but people of knowledge. He invited the faithful to reflect on how one’s actions stem from conscious choices. He also highlighted the role of Mother Mary in the Passion of Christ, underscoring her importance in drawing everyone closer to Jesus.

At the conclusion, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Bishop for his thought-provoking message and wished him success in his pastoral mission.

With this spiritually enriching experience, Derebail Parish entered Holy Week on a deeply reflective note. The initiative by the Senior CLC was truly unique and commendable. Around 35 parishioners were part of the team that enacted the Way of the Cross.
